Of course, the number of slaves he owned wasn't always the same. He had 64 in 1872, according to his tax report. At his death he had 65, which he left to his family. Immediately after the revolution, he apparently had 75. Is that really the point?

Anyway, he wasn't the only slave-holding American founding father by a long shot. Yes, I'm looking at you, George Washington, and your slave teeth dentures!

Altough he owned slaves all his life, he advocated for abolishing such a disgusting practice as slavery...
